1. Open to professional golfers who reside in the State of New York.

2. Open to PGA members and associates affiliated with any one of the four New York State PGA Sections.

3. Open to amateurs who reside in New York and whose handicap/index does not exceed 10.0 under the USGA Men’s Golf Handicap/Index System.

4. Open to amateurs who are members of clubs located in the State of New York and whose handicap/index does not exceed 10.0 under the World Handicap System.

 

Eligibility Note: The Tournament Committee’s authority in determining eligibility may make discretionary judgments as to residency within the bounds of the law and will evaluate all information given, including the age and general circumstances of the applicant.  Documentation which may be considered when determining eligibility includes:

-New York State Driver’s License

-New York State Voter’s Registration

-New York State Vehicle Registration

-New York State Income Tax Return (official transcript)

-Federal Income Tax Return (official transcript)

-Professional/Occupational License in New York State

-Proof of Purchase/Ownership of a home in NY State

-Full-Time employment in the State of New York

No single document shall be conclusive.

Qualifying entry fee of $260 for professionals/$185 for amateurs shall be paid by all entrants, including exempt players.  All entrants must apply on the Tournament Web Site, www.met.pga.com.  No post entries, telephone entries or entries without the appropriate fees will be accepted.  

 

Approved, paid entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm on the listed closing date.  Entries should be submitted in ample time to allow for error in transition or payment issues.

 

There will be a $25 service charge on all refunded entries.  Entry fee will be refunded regardless of a reason if the Metropolitan PGA (914.347.2325) is notified before the close of entries.  After the close of entries, fee will not be refunded.  Withdrawals by exempt players after the entry deadline date will be filled at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.  Withdrawals by players who qualified at one of the seven locations will be replaced by alternates from the same location.

Competition will be in two stages at stroke play:

 

1. A local qualifying round of 18 holes for all except the exempt players listed.

 

2. Championship rounds—18 holes each of three days with a cut after 36 holes to the low 60 scorers and ties or anyone within 10 strokes of the leader.

 

All qualifying rounds will be held during the month of June unless granted permission by the Tournament Committee to hold qualifying rounds on an alternate date.

The number of qualifiers from each site will be determined by the Tournament Committee based on size and playing quality of the field.  Number of qualifiers to be held shall be determined by the Tournament Committee in advance.  Number of qualifying spots at each site shall be announced in advance.  In the event of a tie for the last qualifying position(s), all ties will qualify.  Qualifying sites may not be changed after the entry deadline without the consent of the Tournament Committee.  All players exempt from qualifying must conform with requirements as stated on the back page of this application or be approved by the Tournament Committee.  Substitutions for any qualifiers will be based on qualifying score from the qualifying site of the withdrawn player.  Substitutions for exempt players will be determined by the Tournament Committee.

 

Rules of Golf:

USGA Rules shall govern all play except as modified by local rules.  Questions shall be settled by the Tournament Committee.  Its decisions shall be final.

During qualifying rounds players MUST use golf carts and/or caddies unless otherwise authorized by the Tournament Committee and at the discretion of the host club (No competitors may carry their own bag or use a push/pull cart.).  During the Championship carts will be prohibited.  Caddies will be required and must carry the bag. Players are required to bring their own caddies (No competitor may carry his own clubs).

Practice rounds for qualifying shall be determined at the discretion of the host club.  Information on practice rounds for the Championship will be posted on the Met PGA web site (www.met.pga.com) at the conclusion of all qualifiers.

At the Qualifying stage and in the Championship proper, players must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming.  The Committee decides whether this requirement has been met and has authority to withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply.  The wearing of short pants is prohibited in the Championship proper but is permissible in Qualifying provided the host club does not have a dress code prohibiting such.

Amateur prize certificates won in qualifying rounds will be redeemable at the pro shop of the host course. Certificates awarded for the New York State Open Golf Championship sponsored by NFP AND Lenox Advisors are redeemable at the Bethpage pro shop.  All certificates must be redeemed prior to September 1st of the current year.
